After inheriting her home from her mother, this Lafayette homeowner was ready to remodel the kitchen, which hadn’t been updated since the 1980s. Particular pain points included the sink that was awkwardly located in the corner, dated cabinets, worn out laminate flooring, and an unsightly bulkhead and pony wall that gave the space a closed-off feeling.
With plenty of backyard space, this Lafayette homeowner also desired a sunroom, which she had the benefit of utilizing in a prior home.
Riverside Construction started by removing the bulkhead and pony wall to create a functional U- Shape kitchen and relocating the sink below the window. Next, they replaced the dated cabinets with shaker-style Wellborn Select Series cabinetry in Hancock MDF. These fresh, modern upper and lower cabinets were finished in two colors, Willow and Glacier. Visual interest was added to the kitchen by designing glass cabinet doors on either side of the sink. New Carrara Mist Quartz countertops and a glass ceramic tile backsplash installed in a brick lay pattern completed the look. Other highlights included luxury vinyl Andover Bayhill Blonde plank flooring for easy cleaning, under cabinet lighting, and a semi-flush drum lighting fixture by Livex Lighting.
By building a room addition sunroom off of her back bedroom, this Lafayette homeowner got the relaxing space she needed to sunbathe, nap, or grow indoor plants. Her cats also benefited from an ideal living place to soak up the sun.
The new addition was designed with oversize wood-wrapped windows and a sizable sliding glass door. The same luxury vinyl plank flooring used in the kitchen was also laid in the sunroom for continuity and balance. Custom cat perches were built under the windows to allow for plenty of bird-watching!
This homeowner, and her cats, were thrilled with the new modern kitchen and spacious sunroom, which not only expanded her seasonal living space, but allowed her, and her cats, the benefit of enjoying the outdoors without the threat of bugs or inclement weather, all year long.
