An unfortunate challenge with a passing loved one created the need for this homeowner to make significant upgrades to all of the bathrooms in this ranch style home. To accommodate in-laws who were moving in with the family the homeowner needed to create a guest bathroom that was functional and aesthetic, incorporating necessary universal design features.
Also, the home was originally designed with only two bathrooms. With children in the home, the master bathroom became overly used (for the adults and the children). As such, the homeowner was interested in adding a third bathroom, which could be designated as “the kids’ bathroom.”
The primary bathroom was opened up by removing existing non-load bearing pony walls, built-ins, and the arched casings over the bathtub. Affectionately called “the “Christmas bathroom” by all in the family, the dated, red wallpaper was happily removed. A wall was also removed from the hallway, allowing Riverside Construction to reposition the bathroom into the bedroom, creating a true master suite.
Working from a clean slate, a large frameless walk-in shower was installed with Avalon Tuscan Bronze fixtures. A dual shaker style vanity was selected and finished in a soothing gray color called “Willow.” Completing the look was a beautiful cultured marble countertop with contemporary Pfister Jaida Tuscan Bronze Waterfall bathroom faucets, and luxury vinyl plank flooring, chosen purposefully for its beauty and easy maintenance.
The dated 1970s/80s avocado tub was removed and replaced with a large walk-in shower, making it easy for everyone to use, regardless of age, size or ability. The shower was finished with 12 x 12 Daltile Stratford Place in Dorian Gray, and Delta fixtures finished in Venetian Bronze. The same shaker style vanity and marble countertop used in the master bathroom was used in the guest bathroom to create consistency between the two spaces.
To create a third “kid-friendly” bathroom, Riverside Construction utilized storage space from under the stairs, which backed up to the master bathroom. Tapping into the existing plumbing, another full bathroom was created for the kids, including a shower/bath combo, single vanity, and plenty of storage space.
This family now has beautiful and functional bathrooms that can service their needs now and well into the future.
