Remodeling Need
This homeowner sought to renovate their master bathroom to improve functionality and accommodate the needs of their daughter who uses a wheelchair. Their primary goals were to create a more spacious feel, ensure accessibility, and incorporate modern fixtures and storage solutions.
Design Solutions
- Vanity: A furniture-style cabinet with individual framed mirrors and undermount sinks was chosen, emphasizing style without compromising on leak prevention. The color scheme remains flexible, with brushed nickel fixtures adding a timeless appeal.
- Shower: A zero-entry shower design was implemented for easy wheelchair access, featuring minimal glass to simplify entry. A partial wall was added for water containment, and the shower was equipped with a handheld unit separate from the rain shower head, catering to both functionality and luxury. The shower area includes a recessed niche for ample storage and a bench for added comfort.
- Storage: Addressing the family’s storage concerns, innovative solutions were integrated throughout the bathroom, including in the vanity and shower areas.
- Accessibility: The layout was meticulously planned to accommodate a shower-ready wheelchair, with a big, bench-equipped shower ensuring safety and ease of use. ADA considerations were carefully integrated into the design.
- Toilet and Bathtub: A modern, durable toilet was installed. The decision to forgo a bathtub in favor of a spacious shower reflects the family’s preferences and the room’s functional priorities.
