Remodeling an unfinished basement is a great way to increase your home’s value and add additional living space. For these West Lafayette homeowners, they were ready to transform their basements from a repository for old furniture and holiday decorations into a comfortable living space for the kids to gather with friends. Functionally, they also wanted a dedicated workout area and another full bathroom.
Riverside’s design team worked collaboratively with the homeowners to custom-design a solution that would fit their needs. Aesthetically, the basement staircase was updated with contemporary red oak posts and white balusters. A Wellborn Select Series Maple cabinet was designed underneath the stairs to maximize space. It was topped with a durable Calcutta Marble Wilsonart laminate countertop. Perfect for a movie night, a shelf was added above the countertop for a microwave. Riverside’s design team also removed a partial wall to open up the space, improving the room flow from the living area to the new workout space.
The full bathroom was designed with a new American Standard pedestal sink as a focal point. The shower was lined with a Delta Classic 3-Piece wall and complimented by Delta brushed nickel fixtures. Easy maintenance, sheet vinyl in a Tapestry design by Mannington completes the look.
For function and convenience, Riverside also created a new closet to hide away the home’s HVAC and water heater.
Adding comfort and warmth, the new living room was laid with new beige carpeting and complemented with easy-maintenance luxury vinyl plank flooring by Homecrest in the eating and workout areas.
Riverside successfully transformed a utilitarian basement into a comfortable living space with designated areas for different uses.
