The owners of this 100-year-old home asked Riverside Construction to completely renovate the main floor to make it more functional. In particular, they didn’t like how closed off the kitchen was from the living room. They envisioned opening up the space to accommodate large family gatherings. They also wanted to reconfigure the kitchen to make it larger, and more functional.
Riverside Construction’s design solution included using the hallway space to expand the kitchen floor plan and relocating the opening to the living room to improve the room flow. Then, the wall between the kitchen and dining room was removed to open up the entire space.
The new layout allowed for a small custom island and private work space. The island was designed with Wellborn Premier Series in Trestle painted in Bleu and topped with Azul Platino granite.
Creating a warm, inviting contrast, the perimeter cabinets were painted in Glacier and provided much needed storage accessories and improved functionality. Complementing the cabinets is an American Olean Bricktown tile backsplash in Cashmere Court.
White shiplap was used on the kitchen hood, a wall in the dining room, and the new fireplace surround, tying the whole level of the home together. The flooring chosen was a beautiful resilient, luxury Oak Vinyl Plank from Shaw Floorte. New light fixtures, appliances, an undermount sink, and a calming blue wall color complete this fresh, updated kitchen and living room.
The homeowners are thrilled with their new main floor renovation which gives them plenty of space and flexibility for hosting large gatherings with friends and family.
